Our 5

To date, Power of 5, has supported two very distinct and inspirational programs. We have help support over 150 children and young adults in meeting their basic needs, and expanding their potential.

AWMD (Association for the Welfare of the Mentally Disabled):

For almost 20 years, AWMD has been assisting mentally and physically handicapped children in South India to reach their highest potential. Founded on a belief that a mentally or physcially disabled individual, like every human being, has an equal right to life, love, care, education, training, and employment, AWMD provides its services regardless of of caste, creed, or community.

Through the creation of community based rehabilitation programs, AWMD focuses on the potential of the disabled within the larger community. It costs roughly $18,000 annually to run all components of this program including staff salaries. Your gift can truly make a difference here.

CADA NINO:

Cada Nino, Every Child is a one-woman show that has been in operation since 2005. This program works to address the simplest of needs in the tiniest of places: a small village located within the Panamanian cloudforest. The program has one aim: to provide the children there with adequate footwear that not only protects them against the many environmental challenges they face (mud, rocks, snakes, parastitic infections) but also makes life a little bit easier by providing them with the basic of needs.

To date almost 200 children have received rubber boots and socks through this program and there is hope to eventually provide footwear for all the adults as well.
